Description

Urban archeology represents the most suitable tool to start a global analysis of the historical, political and social events that affected cities over time. In this work, urban geophysics is used as a tool to explore the archeologically sensitive areas that are located inside the subsoil of the ancient city of Cusco. This objective takes shape after that inca walls were found in an area of the Plaza de Armas during some maintenance works of the road pavement and technological networks. The investigations carried out with the georadar highlight the difficulty of discriminating between archaeological features and modern structures and the need to develop ad hoc procedures for the processing and interpretation of geophysical data to support urban archeology.
